MT-09 is built to appeal to your motorcycling instincts – a high torque triple that’s a real thrill ride. At its beating heart a lightweight 847cc 3-cylinder engine kicks out a wide band of raw, linear torque guaranteed to boost adrenalin.

And now MT-09 is more striking than ever with an intimidating LED twin-eye face. The front winglets and radiator side fins give an ultra-sharp look and to reinforce the bike’s uncompromising style we’ve designed a shorter tail. With its radical looks, refined bodywork and higher specification, this unstoppable force is ready to take your Street Cred riding experience to the next level.

Compact and lightweight liquid-cooled 3-cylinder engine

The MT-09’s 3-cylinder engine has been developed to embody the essence of Yamaha’s ‘crossplane philosophy’ which is designed to ensure instant throttle response together with strong low to mid-range torque.

Yamaha D-MODE: select the soul you want

To give the MT-09 rider the bike – and the excitement – he or she needs in different riding situations, this new motorcycle is equipped with the Yamaha D-MODE system. The rider has a choice of three different throttle valve control mapping settings, STD Mode, A Mode and B Mode.

Concealed 3-into-1 exhaust

To underline Yamaha’s attention to every detail, even the muffler receives a makeover and features a flatter surface and a new end cap that contribute towards the MT-09’s impression of condensed mass and mechanical beauty.

Lightweight and compact CF aluminium die-cast frame

In order to enable the rider to optimise the performance characteristics of the new high-torque 3-cylinder engine, the MT-09 runs with an all-new compact and lightweight aluminium chassis. The space-saving and weight-reducing features employed on the new engine have given our designers great freedom in the design of the frame.

Traction Control System (TCS)

For reduced rear tyre slippage and higher levels of controllability, the MT-09 is equipped with a Traction Control System featuring two different modes as well as an off switch. Mode 1 gives minimum intervention and mode 2 offers maximum intervention, allowing you to adjust or turn off the TCS to suit different conditions and riding styles.

Quick Shift System (QSS)

This new mechanism is the same as the design featured on the multi award-winning YZF-R1, and features a sensor on the shift rod that momentarily cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected, giving more efficient and exciting acceleration through the gears.

Assist and Slipper (A and S) clutch

By minimising the unsettling effects caused by high levels of back torque and excessive engine braking, this new A and S clutch gives improved control and gentler handling characteristics when downshifting aggressively.

Ultra-compact tail end

The new ultra-compact tail end design reinforces the MT-09’s athletic Street Cred stance and enhances the bike’s aggressive good looks.The upwardly slanted subframe is shortened by 30mm, and to convey a feeling of lightness and agility, the shorter upswept tail cowl features new side grills.

Swingarm-mounted rear fender

To complement its shorter tail, the MT-09 is equipped with an all-new swingarm-mounted rear fender and rego plate holder featuring a single-sided lightweight forged aluminium stay.

Aggressively styled twin-eye LED headlights

Influenced by the uncompromising image of the flagship MT-10, the radically styled face of the MT-09 features an aggressive new LED twin-eye headlight design that underlines this bike’s forceful image as well as its compact and lightweight feel.
